James Duchamp, Ph.D. James Earl Copenhaver Professor and chair of the Natural Science Division of Emory & Henry College, grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and was educated at Kalamazoo College (B.A., 1987), and Yale University (Ph.D., 1992). After post-doctoral work at Cornell University, he joined the Emory & Henry College faculty in 1994.

A physical chemist by training, Professor Duchamp enjoys working with students and is faculty advisor for the award winning Emory & Henry College Chapter of the Student Affiliate of American Chemistry Society. Professor Duchamp has co-authored more than twenty-five publications and book chapters primarily reporting on endohedral metallofullerenes and solid state NMR. He is a member of the Virginia Academy of Sciences, National Science Teacher Association, Council of Undergraduate Research and the American Chemical Society. He served as chair of the Northeast Tennessee Section of the American Chemical Society in 2002 and is also a Research Associate Professor of Chemistry at Virginia Tech.
